Cookie Policy
Last updated 21 February 2026 · Head Count, registered in England & Wales.
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how Head Count ("we", "our", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies when you use our web application (the "Service").
We only use strictly necessary cookies that are essential for the Service to function. We do not use any analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies.
2. Cookies We Use
The following cookies are set by Head Count and are required for the Service to operate. The Service cannot function without them.
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sb-access-token | Authenticates your session by carrying a JSON Web Token (JWT) used for API requests. | Essential | ~1 hour |
| sb-refresh-token | Obtains a new access token when the current one expires, keeping you signed in. | Essential | 30 days |
| pkce_code_verifier | Used during OAuth sign-in and password-reset flows to protect against authorisation code interception (PKCE). | Essential | 10 minutes |
All cookies listed above are HTTP-only
(not accessible to JavaScript) and Secure
(only sent over HTTPS in production). The SameSite
attribute is set to Lax
to prevent cross-site request forgery.
3. Local Storage
We use your browser's local storage to remember your display preference, and only once you set it explicitly.
If you explicitly choose Light or Dark from the theme switch in Settings, your
choice is saved under the theme
key so it persists across page loads and visits. Until you make an explicit
choice, nothing is stored and the application's dark mode follows your device or
browser's system preference (using the standard
prefers-color-scheme
setting).
4. Third-Party Cookies
We do not use any third-party cookies. No analytics, advertising, social media, or tracking cookies are set by the Service.
5. Your Choices
We currently set only strictly necessary cookies, so there is nothing you need to switch off for the Service to respect your privacy. If we ever introduce optional analytics cookies, your preference below will apply — you can change it at any time from any page footer.
6. Managing Cookies
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically find these options in your browser's "Settings", "Preferences", or "Privacy" menu.
Please note: because our cookies are strictly necessary for authentication, disabling or deleting them will prevent you from signing in to the Service. If you clear your cookies, you will need to sign in again.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Service and updating the "Last updated" date. If we begin using non-essential cookies in the future, we will seek your consent before setting them.
8. Contact Us
If you have any questions about our use of cookies, please visit our support page or email us at support@head-count.app.
